[PRODUCT] What happened to the older "Deluxe / Standard / First" editions of Latice and how is Latice Hawai'i different?
We’ve heard this question a lot from longtime fans of the Latice board game. Every year we’ve asked fans and ourselves “what could we do to make Latice even better?” and made incremental changes to the game. But due to an unplanned issue last year with manufacturing, we were unable to reprint the previous editions. While disappointing, we took this opportunity to revisit every detail of the game and surprised ourselves with the scope of the changes that led to Latice Hawai’i:
Additional Rules (of course you could just download the new rules and use them with any Latice game): (1) TIMED MODES: Latice can be played in a much more competition format by introducing a time constraint (like chess). We’ve add Regulation, Blitz, and Bullet game modes along with a sand timer to facilitate timed matches.
(2) KID MODE: By popular request, we included instructions for best introducing younger players (under 6 y/o) to the game.
(3) ADVANCED PLAYER MODES: Fast Start, Spike, Endgame modes create new challenges for experienced players and give a jump start to the game.
Component Improvements (1) RACKS: We’ve adjusted the racks to improve the viewing angle and help keep your tiles more out of view from wandering eyes. They’ll also be cast in a beautiful translucent blue that will look amazing on the table and with the rest of the game.
(2) TILES: The first thing you’ll notice about the new tiles is that we “inverted” the shapes and colors. This not only makes the game more colorful and visually delightful, but allowed us to more strongly bring out the patterns tied to each color, helping those with imperfect vision or colorblindness (~10% of the population) play the game more easily.
We also moved away from using a heat printed process for the tiles shapes to allow for better color reproduction longer-term durability (solves the “chipping” problem). What we’ve learned is that in some cases the heat is insufficiently applied to the print, leading to tiles that are far less durable than they should be.
Since then we’ve validated a new design that uses durable, water-resistant stickers with a tile mold. The stickers sit within a beveled cutout, which has proven not only far more durable than the original design but allows us to use stronger and more vibrant printing (better for people with less than ideal vision). We’re even adding to this metallic foil accents on the stickers, which look stunning on the tiles and board while significantly improving readability of the tiles in low-light conditions.
(3) GAME BOARD: The game board features all new artwork by lead artist Takbeom Heogh. The new board will be 15” square instead of 14” square, with gold foil accents for the sun squares and border.
4) STONES: The original halfstones were small and had a tendency to be lost or misplaced. We’ve not only increased the count of stones in the game, we’ve made the halfstones much bigger (now same size as the sunstones).
5) TIMER: Added a 1-minute timer to facilitate more competitive timed matches.
6) BOX (Exterior and tray insert): All new artwork for the front and back of the box. This edition will include a box with foil and UV accents and a fully molded tray with form-fitting compartments for racks, timer, stones and tiles to keep all of the game pieces organized and well protected for years.

[PRODUCT] Why is the name spelled "Latice" and not "Lattice"?
There are already many things that use the name “Lattice”, and we wanted a distinctive name that could be tied to the game long-term. “Latice” is actually an Italian word that, not surprisingly, means “Lattice”.

[PRODUCT] Why is the name spelled "Hawai'i" and not "Hawaii"?
We initially had this wrong but Annette Nelson sent us this helpful link on why it’s more correctly spelled with the “’”:

Here’s hoping that the “commonly used” spelling catches up sometime in our lifetimes!

[PLEDGE] Can I back at $1 and upgrade my pledge later?
Yes. Backers who pledge $1 or more will get access to the pledge manager after the Kickstarter concludes. Through there you can upgrade your pledge to any reward level, and add additional products or add-ons.

[PLEDGE] How can I select an add-on for this campaign?
You can’t do that on Kickstarter, which is why we will have a Pledge Manager. This is where you will give us your address, and tell us what items you want! For now, you may choose to pledge just the amount of the pledge you want, or you may already calculate the total price pledge + add-on and pledge that amount. It’s up to you! Keep in mind that the more people pledge now, the more Stretch Goals we can unlock :)

[PLEDGE] Should I add shipping to my pledge?
If you’re outside the U.S. we don’t recommend it. The prices we’ve shown on this campaign, while based on very precise calculations with our partners, are just estimations at this point of the campaign. We’ll be able to finalize the prices before opening the Pledge Manager, and this is where we will charge you the shipping.

[PLEDGE] What if I miscalculate my pledge because I wanted to add an add-on?
You can correct your pledge amount at any time during the campaign. If you pledged a few $ less, you’ll be able to add them during the Pledge Manager. If you pledged a few $ more, they will go towards the shipping, which we will charge during the Pledge Manager. In any case, it won’t be lost!

[REFUND] Up to when can I request a refund?
- up until 60 days after the campaign ends, we will refund you 100% of your pledge + shipping paid, no question asked.
- after 60 days, and up to the moment we give the backers list to our partner for fulfillment (~ a week before fulfillment starts in the region assigned to that partner), we will refund you 90% of your pledge + shipping paid, no question asked. The remaining 10% are Kickstarter and Stripe fees we won’t be able to get back at this point.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
